Growing up, one of my favorite prayers as a little girl included a traditional prayer to guardian angels. Somewhere in my closet the old picture remains, however as the picture frame centered on a little girl and a “younger female angel” it no longer connected with me. I began to associate it with prayers for children growing up.
I thought I outgrew it.
However, now as an adult I see the beauty of the prayer and why younger children recited it at night.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Guardian Angel,
guard me from harm,
protect me in sleep
without cause for alarm.
Keep me safe through darkness of night,
and wake me gently with God’s morning light.
If I find the picture that use to hang above, I’ll be certain to edit the post and include the picture.
Now, sometimes as an adult I wish I had a prayer that happened to be more concise, directed at an adult audience if you will. As much as I love the simplicity of the prayer above I kept associating the prayer with children. I devised another night prayer for adults.
I hope this prayer is helpful to you.
Father,
As my day comes to a close,
I thank you for the gift
Of one more day.
Give me the gift of self-reflection,
Allow me to change,
And as I fall asleep
Allow me one more day
To love my family and friends, to honor You
And amend my wrongs
Before, you call for me to come home.Amen
Our Farther. Is it My life
